The brief was to create a pure but detailed design in what was a very awkward space, with at least four changes of level. The finished courtyard garden wraps around two sides of the house, with space for entertaining and children’s games. The espalier trees of Pyrus Calleryana ‘Chanticleer’ (Ornamental Pear) were trained to remain small, in keeping with the proportions of the space, and the silver white granite setts made the space feel open, light and airy.
